Who are we?

The Chinese Heritage Association of Australia is a community organisation set up to promote the study and discussion of the history of Chinese community in Australia.

We regularly invite members of the Chinese-Australian community and the academic circle to contribute their stories and insights.

CHAA is a non-profit incorporated association. It has no religious or political affiliations.

Our aims and objectives are as follow:

  • To increase awareness and understanding within the community of the importance and diversity of the Chinese contributions to Australia
  • To encourage and assist members in the recording of family and community histories
  • To undertake cultural heritage research
  • To provide a forum where members can discuss and exchange ideas and information
  • To support and encourage the preservation of records, sites and objects with special heritage significance
  • To bridge the gap between early and more recent immigrants of Chinese origin
  • To promote and represent the interests and concerns of Chinese Australians and
  • To promote friendship, cooperation and understanding between the Chinese Australian community and the wider Australian community.

Program for City of Sydney's 2008 Living in Harmony Series

Chinese Cultural Day 2008

Date: Tuesday 15th April 2008

Time: 10:00am - 4:30pm

Venue: Chinese Gardens of Friendship

Program includes: Lion Dance (opening), Chinese tea brewing, Chinese magic show, dance, drawing/painting/writing, Chinese taichi fan demonstration, kung fu demonstration.

Dilemma of the Chinese Returnee Talk

Date: Sunday 18th May 2008

Time: 2:30pm

Venue: Rydges World Square Hotel, Cnr of Pitt and Liverpool St, Sydney

Cost: $10 for members and $12.50 for non members. Afternoon tea will be served from 2pm- 2:30pm.

As a Chinese returnee, Kong Teh has made multiple attempts to work and live in China. His recently published book; Dilemma of the Chinese Returnee, is a must read for overseas Chinese planning to live in China, and is also an excellent reference book for Western Executives wishing to gain an insight into the mind of a Chinese returnee, and the diversity of China's 1.3 billion inhabitants.

Join Kong Teh, as he speaks about his journey of self-discovery, and share his candid observations, challenges, acheivements and identity crisis.
